Monthly Crypto Exchange Updates: January 2025

As part of our monthly updates, we’re sharing the latest changes in cryptocurrency exchange rankings. This month features new listings, exchanges improving their security practices, and some drops due to expired certifications. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what’s new.

New Listings

This month, we welcomed a new exchange to our rankings:

  • Collect & Exchange: Entered with an initial score of 16.6/100. As a new listing, we look forward to seeing their commitment to cybersecurity evolve.

Exchanges Demonstrating Dedication to Cybersecurity

Several exchanges made notable progress by implementing key security measures:

  • Deribit: Improved by 10 points, reaching an impressive score of 93/100, after adopting the CCSS (CryptoCurrency Security Standard). Deribit became the second centralized exchange obtained CCSS certificate.
  • P2B: Increased by 10 points, achieving a score of 88/100, also through ISO certification.
  • AscendEX: Gained 1.19 points, bringing its total to 80/100, due to enhancements in user and server security, including stricter password requirements and cookie flags.
  • WEEX: Increased by 25 points, reaching a total score of 73/100, thanks to launching a bug bounty program with HackenProof.
  • Flipster: Improved by 10 points, now scoring 34/100, after obtaining ISO certification. But it still lack ongoing bug bounty program and regular penetration tests.

Exchanges Losing Ground

Unfortunately, some exchanges experienced drops in their scores due to lapses in maintaining critical certifications:

  • Websea: Dropped by 25 points, reducing its score to 47/100, as its penetration test expired.
  • Azbit: Similarly lost 25 points, now scoring just 24/100, also due to an expired pentest.
  • Bitunix: Also dropped by 25 points, current score 53/100. They closed their bug bounty program with HackenProof and made it private.
UPD 10/01: Bitunix re-published their bug bounty program and gained the score back.

Other Notable Updates

  • Tothemoon Exchange: Formerly known as Cryptology, the exchange underwent a rebranding but maintained its previous score.
  • WhiteBIT: Maintained its position as the first exchange to achieve a perfect score while being fully certified at the same time — a significant milestone in crypto exchange security.

Final Thoughts

This month’s updates highlight the continuous efforts of some exchanges to enhance their security measures while emphasizing the importance of maintaining certifications like pentests and ISO standards. Exchanges like WEEX, Deribit, and Bitunix are setting strong examples with initiatives like bug bounty programs and adherence to global security standards.
